In the Spotlight:

Adopt-A-Dune

On January 10th, 2026, Spotlight Project assisted Adopt-A-Dune with a huge ecological event at Mizell Johnson State Park

Spotlight Project hosted an Adopt a Dune volunteer event dedicated to coastal dune restoration, environmental education, and community engagement. Volunteers spent the morning restoring our local coastline by planting 600 native dune plants, helping stabilize the dune system, reduce erosion, and create critical habitat for wildlife.

The event brought together community members, conservation advocates, and local nonprofit organizations, with several nonprofit speakers sharing their work and educating volunteers on the importance of coastal ecosystems and dune conservation in Florida. Partnering organizations included:

  • Sierra Club- Florida Chapter

  • Solid Waste Authority

  • Moraes of South Florida

  • Cortada Foundation

  • South Florida Audubon Society

Thanks to the support of attendees and partners, the event raised over $2,000 for planting materials. We were proud to have Yerba Madre as an event sponsor, keeping volunteers fueled and supporting a successful morning of hands-on environmental action.

This Adopt a Dune volunteer day highlights The Spotlight Project’s mission to connect people with local nonprofits through impactful, action-driven events that create real environmental change.
